Removal of SP1 Installation Backup Files?
This is a discussion about Removal of SP1 Installation Backup Files? in the Windows Software category; Back in the Win95/98 days, there was an option to remove the backup files for pre-SP installations in the Add/Remove Programs area incase something went wrong. There is no option for the just release SP1 for Windows 2000.
Back in the Win95/98 days, there was an option to remove the backup files for pre-SP installations in the Add/Remove Programs area incase something went wrong. There is no option for the just release SP1 for Windows 2000. How do I remove the backup files SAFELY? (Is it safe to just erase the hidden \WINNT\$Nt*.* directories?) Can I just erase \WINNT\ServicePackFiles as well? Or is this directory critical after SP installation?
These directories combined with my other HotFix patches are about 300MB or so.

You can safely delete the $NtUninstallQ249599$ all of mine are taking up 12mg. I haven't installed SP1 on this computer yet.
I even took the time to search for this answer...
But, it didn't really get answered. I installed SP1 on my new Win2K install, and I don't remember being asked if I wanted back up files. I don't need them, as I know everything is fine under SP1, but they are there and taking up 245MB, so I want to nix 'em. Can I just delete that $NtServicePackUnistall$ folder?
