Removing Whistler safely from Dual Boot configuration
This is a discussion about Removing Whistler safely from Dual Boot configuration in the Windows Hardware category; Greetings, I have two hard drives, each hard drive is seperated into 2 partitions, which makes 4 partitions total. For now I'll just number them 1-4. Partition 1 is the boot partition, it doesn't have any system files on it, only the boot.
Greetings,
I have two hard drives, each hard drive is seperated into 2 partitions, which makes 4 partitions total. For now I'll just number them 1-4. Partition 1 is the boot partition, it doesn't have any system files on it, only the boot.ini files along with all the other files necessary for booting the computer. Partition 2 has Whistler on it, and partition 3 has Win2K on it. Partition 4 is empty and is only for file storage.
What I want to accomplish is to safely remove Whistler off of partition 2 in a way that will keep the boot information clean. I'm afraid if I just format the partition that Whislter resides on, Whistler will still show up as a bootup option when I start up the computer. I know I could just go into the boot.ini file and remove the Whistler line, but I'm afraid of other unseen changes residing in ntldr or some other place I don't know of.
If anyone has any advice, or things I should know before proceeding, I'd be very grateful to hear them.

couldn't you just format the partition holding whistler, then unhide the boot.ini file and edit that so that it doesn't show up anymore? Or you could just format the whistler partition, then go back into Windows 2000 and uncheck that "Show list of operating systems". Then it'll be back to normal. I think it's the easiest way.

OP
yeah, I was thinking of just editing the boot.ini file, but I wanted to be certain that boot.ini is the only file that will need modification. None of the other non-text files like ntldr will have any problem with me doing this?
Nope. Just format the partition on which Whistler resides and remove Whistler from the boot.ini

OP
alright, cool! I'm relieved to hear it's that simple. Thanks for your help guys!
You are welcome #4887.
LOL! I couldn't resist.
I'm gonna start referring to everyone by their #'s now. It's sounds so cool.

Hello.
Hello.
Kill the Whistler partition. Edit the boot.ini. If using 9x/ME boot with a boot disk and in dos type fdisk /mbr
