Running Command Line at startup
This is a discussion about Running Command Line at startup in the Customization Tweaking category; I would like to know how I can run a couple of command line commands at startup. I need to use ipconfig /release and /renew when I log on as my cable modem won't work until I do. Something slightly incompatible between my ISP and Win2K (they say).

Something slightly incompatible between my ISP and Win2K (they say). I've made a .BAT file called STARTUP.BAT and I dragged a shortcut for it to the Startup group. However, it doesn't seem to work although if I click on the shortcut after the machine has finished starting up, it does what I want. Can anyone suggest what I may have done wrong?

either add the lines in autoexec.bat or make a bat and add a shortcut to it in start -> programs -> startup

Thanks for the reply. I assume that the question mark meant that you couldn't understand why I was having a problem. However, I wasn't even aware that AUTOEXEC.BAT was supported by Windows 2000. After looking it up in the Help, I found that it seemed to be used to set environment variables only and that AUTOEXEC.NT in SYSTEM32 was used to run "DOS" applications. I tried putting my commands in both of these files including the full path to the executable and still had no luck. I then went back to my shortcut in the Startup group making it run full screen at which point I found that it did run. The problem would appear to be that something that happens as the last thing in the logon is causing the foul up with my ISP. This means that I have to run the BAT file after log on is finished and it then works. At least I know that what I tried in the first place is correct for running commands as part of startup. It just doesn't work in this instance.
well i would ***** at your ISP for being lackeys and not even supporting w2k. Who knows maybe by time Blackcomb is out they will finally institute W2k support.

Trouble is, the choice of broadband is quite limited down here so I have to take what I can get with Chello. It is an improvement on a 56K modem when it is running. It used to run with Win2K but they made some "enhancements" to the service a short time back and it hasn't worked properly since!
