sidewinder gamepad & MX400 in Win2K

This is a discussion about sidewinder gamepad & MX400 in Win2K in the Windows Hardware category; I have a monster sound MX400 operating in win2K and I cant get my microsoft sidewinder gamepad to work. When I add a game controller I use the Microsoft Sidewinder (autodetect) and it tells me I have a sidewinder 3D Pro, which I don't.

I have a monster sound MX400 operating in win2K and I cant get my microsoft sidewinder gamepad to work. When I add a game controller I use the Microsoft Sidewinder (autodetect) and it tells me I have a sidewinder 3D Pro, which I don't. This would be fine though I guess if it worked, but it doesn't. I can sit and watch the game controller status and it flashes back and forth b/t OK and NOT CONNECTED. ??? Is my controller hosed or is it the sound card or what? Apreciate any help. Thanks.

I have the same problem than you.
I've also tried to install it manually with my old drivers and with the driver available on microsoft site. they don't work on w2K

It is a known problem. My Sidewinder gamepad, nor my Sidewinder FF wheel work.

I have a mx400 also and am having the same problem with my Force feedback pro. The 400mx card uses the ESS Canyon 3D chip, you can get win 2k drivers from the Ess website ( www.esst.com). It's listed under the ES1978. BUT... I did this and it didn't help. I removed the MX400 and reinstalled the onboard sound system and the joystick worked fine (sound sucked, hehe). I've also looked at the MS site, nothing and here, nothing. So, I'm at a loss. Someone needs to put out some drivers or something, I suspect Ess since Diamond no longer makes cards and has no incentive to provide meaningfull support. I hope this helps a little, email me if you get the solution.
