Hey i had a similar problem
the only solution that i could find was to turn down the sound acceleration to the last or second last level.
can do that in control panel.
that will make the sound work fine.
As towards other solutions, just gotta wait for a patch

I don't think that happens with CLabs cards only. My MX300 under W2K also suffered from server sound problems in ST: Armada. I still haven't figured out a way to fix this.

I had to turn EAX off in HL because the sound was 'terrible' after installing LiveWare2k.
Keep willing Liveware3 out..
