sparatic reboots

This is a discussion about sparatic reboots in the Windows Hardware category; I am running win2k on a Asus P3V4X board. My PII 400 runs at 42C but for some reason my system will reboot whenever it feels like it. Any suggestions, I know that there are some compatibility problems with win2k and the VIA chipsets.

I had a similar problem with my over-clocked P3 700 @ 933. It normally run's at 42C but when under load (e.g. 40 mins of Unreal Tornie or Q3) it would just re-boot. I set up Motherboard monitor to log the temp every 10 secs to a log file and found that the CPU was reaching in excess of 70C just prior to re-booting. I didn't wan't to tamper with the stock CPU casing so I added a couple of extra (case) fans around it. Now it only ever reaches 63C under stress and has never rebooted since.

Hope this helps.
