sportster flash v.90 (*9190) and dial up

This is a discussion about sportster flash v.90 (*9190) and dial up in the Windows Hardware category; When I try to dial using my modem, it just produces a continous dial tone, and I cannot get any further than that, though under win98 I have no problems with this modem. Any suggestion? Thanks!.

yeah I did, but it doesn't matter if it is a dial-up or I just try to make a call/dial using any other software, the effect is still the same...

oops I was wrong, I can dial with other software and in fact, I discovered that I can use dial-up BUT ONLY with "operator assisted dial", normal dial-up still doesn't work....

Did you try uninstalling the device and then have windows redetect it. If you did my next suggestion would be to try and use the .INF file that win 98 uses to setup the modem. if that doesn't work then please send me screen shot's of all the dial-up properties windows.

When you try to dial out and when you modem access the phone line can you hear the dial tone? If so can you hear the number being dialed? If so can you still hear the dial tone during and after the number is being dialed? If you can then you may want to check your telephone number that it is trying to dial. Make sure that if you have to dial a 9 or 1 that is is there with the number.

Try this post first before trying the other.

Hope this help's, if not I will keep trying to help you.

When I'm trying to dial out and when my modem accesses the phone line, yes, I can hear the dial tone, but no more than that, I can't hear number being dialed after that etc...
After some time listening to the "music of the tones" I got a line busy signal and an error message #678 - There was no answer...

And as I've mentioned before, there no problems with this when I use "operator assisted dialing"....

Well polarcat, I went through the files you sent me and I couldn't see any real difference between any of them, except for the difference of the 2 .INF files that W2K and Win98 uses. The difference was that the W2K INF file for some reason has your particular modem on it's exclude list where as the Win98 on doesn't.

So my suggestion would have to be the same as spades. Here is what you should try: first in W2K uninstall the modem, then rename all the MDMUSRG.INF files that W2K may be using. Then after that COPY the MDMUSRG.INF file from Win98 x:\windows\inf folder and copy it to W2K x:\winnt\inf folder. Then either restart W2K or have W2K redetect your modem. To get W2K to redetect your modem go to: Settings, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, the lift click and select Scan for Hardware Changes. it should then detect your modem and you should then be all set.

Hope that work's

I've copied both MDMUSRG.INF and MDMUSRG.PNF files from my win98 to w2k, deleted my modem, restarted and reinstalled but the effect is still the same... (

DarkWolf, you've mentioned that on your win98 drivers, *9190 is not excluded, but I've checked and my win98se does exclude it as well as w2k does. Can you please send me both your win98 MDMUSRG.INF and MDMUSRG.PNF files, maybe it will help...

Thanks!

Well Polarcat I will send them to you and I hope they help. Just thought I would reply to you here first before sending them just in case you were keeping track of the board and don't have an auto email checker going like I do.

I've received your inf file, DarkWolf, but it unfortunately didn't solve the issue either...

I visited 3com's uk site ant they say that they will have w2k drivers posted soon. I guess I will have to wait until then...

Thanks for all the help DarkWolf!
