Star Wars Rogue Squadron Joystick Problem

I can get the game to run on my machine with a Voodoo 2 and Glide drivers, but the joystick will not work in the game.

I have other games that I run under Win 2000 where the joystick works fine.
It's very frustrating that the game runs fine, but I'm forced to fly around using the keyboard!
Anyone else have this problem or know of a work around?
