Trouble Playing Games Over home Network...

This is a discussion about Trouble Playing Games Over home Network... in the Windows Games category; I have a small network in my home and cannot host or join any 'network' games regardless of which machine hosts or is joining. Both machines are on Win 2K Pro. Both 'see' each other on the network, and respond to ping's and tracert's (using either the macine names or their IP's).

I have a small network in my home and cannot host or join any 'network' games regardless of which machine hosts or is joining. Both machines are on Win 2K Pro. Both 'see' each other on the network, and respond to ping's and tracert's (using either the macine names or their IP's). File transfers from one pc to the other are not a problem either. However, trying to play multiplayer games between the two machines (namely Diablo 2 or Age of The Empires 2) neither machine will see the other. I have been at this for 2 weeks now and still can't resolve it; any assistance is greatly appreciated!!!

try giving each computer a defined address..like 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3
and if you run a router make sure and assign the router gateway address..dunno..just a thought.
cheers
