I had no problem with Ultima IX on win2k rc3. I have a p3-500, asus Mainboard, voodoo3, and SBLive.
In general though, the problem you describe sounds like a video driver. Make sure you have at least version 356 of nvidia's tnt drivers...

Try looking at the Win2k section... I think your problem (or similar) is posted as well as solved there...
