Unreal Tournament with 128MB
This is a discussion about Unreal Tournament with 128MB in the Windows Games category; I got my new GeForce DDR (previously owned TNT) and began playing UT in 1024*768 with 32bit color, but UT keeps paging. After I explore a level, the paging goes away. Is another stick of 128MB my next upgrade? Addtronics Case Soyo D6IBA-2 with 1 500Mhz PIII (Built in U2W) ASUS GeForce DDR 128MB RAM 9.

Are u running OpenGL or DirectX? Cos in OpenGL, it needs to do a lot more texture buffering...u can see it even in the flythrough at the beginning...
I know exactly what you're talking about... come around a corner and watch it 'stutter' to load new textures, etc....
I was in that situation as well with only 128mb ram, and as soon as i upgraded to 256, all those problems went away. Another stick of 128 would definitely be a worthy investment for your cause.

I know from checking my memory usage before and after UT that this games eats up to 160MB memory .... get another 128MB stick, that'll fix your problems.
I 'only' have 128 MB ram, but UT works bweaudifully!! There was a tweaks page posted some time ago, that had all the stuff you need to get it running just nicely. One of the biggest tweak/improvements, was at the console, type 'preferences' and look for paging, set it to off, then restart the game. There are numerous other tweaks, but I cannot recall them off the top of my head right now. Stay tuned..............
I'M BACK....
I have posted them to my web site.... http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~ekstreme/UTTweaks.txt
There is enough there to get you running nicely, without having to shell out more hard earned pennies for RAM. Have fun

OP
I will try the tweaks when I get home tonight. As for purchasing the RAM, it seems as though from the other thread that 256MB total will achieve optimal performance for UT.
Thanks for your help,

OP
Palos,
I am running UT in Direct3D. You know there is one other problem I seem to be having with not just UT, but also Homeworld. That is that I am getting strange flickering on the screen. I have to do more testing to determine if it is the monitor or the video card, but I will post this problem soon once I know more. I will try running UT in OpenGL and see if it the flickering goes away.
