Very slow NTFS drive

This is a discussion about Very slow NTFS drive in the Windows Hardware category; i have a pc with two similar IBM UW SCSI drives. . . . OS is win2k pro. . . on drive has NTFS and the other FAT32. . . . the one with NTFS drive is extremly slow. . about 500kb/s the other with FAT32 doeas about 5MB/s.

the one with NTFS drive is extremly slow..about 500kb/s

the controller is a adaptec 2940
i have already used a defrag tool and checked both drives with checkdisc

Are you using compression or encryption on the NTFS drive?
