Hiya fellas,
Some of us have beent alking about it and figured it would be a good idea to include system specs in our signatures. Below is what I jsut did kinda quickly, but I wanted us to discuss exactly what we should include, like whats pertinent.
I was not sure if harddrive and cdrom configurations were important? If we should list our harddrive and cdrom configs, should we also include what channel and controller they are on?
try to keep them simple and dont complicate it, by getting to specific (like bragging) ie:
320 megs of crucial memory which can handle 133 fsb
just say
320 ram
if ur vid cards at default clock speed then dotn say anything if it is overclocked Ithin we should just do:
TNT2U 175/210 agp
well this is all very preliminary, but lets get it together and come up with something good clean and simple.

It's a good idea, but you should try to make the sig no more than 4 or 5 lines, otherwise reading a post will be more about system specs than about the topic being discussed. You can put more than one spec on a line and conserve space that way. Not everybody runs at 1600x1200 or higher and not everybody wants to always read system specs, they also only really need to be mentioned the first time you post something regarding a problem you are having. Just MHO.
Sounds like a plan. I also think some kind of request to search the forum before posting, and include actual details in questions sould be made during forum membership signup.
Maybe we need a forum FAQ...not that anyone would read it.

yeah I agree panther, but there is jsut to much info to list I wanted to make it simple and brief, I didint think that our harddrive ad cd drives were that relevant, and if they were then we have to add what channel what not its running on,
I mean crap man, I got
2x18 gig WDs ata 66, stripped together, then 5.4 gig wd ata 33
40x cdrom drive
32x dvd drive
then a 6x4x24 cd burner,
it takes to much space, and its usually not pertinent to MOST of the quetions what do u guys think?
------------------
win2k build 2195
Abit BP6 2x 550 cels bios revision 1.20
320 pc133 ram
TNT2U.agp-monitor 1
TNT1..pci-monitor 2
abit hotrob 66.....pci
PCI128.............pci
Hollywood+ decoder.pci
3com ethernet......isa

Dunno man. I'm in favour of as much info as possible (but on as few rows as poss for a couple of reasons.
1. It'll encourage the newbies to give COMPLETE info about their kit when they ask questions.
2. It might give them confidence we know what we're talking about - 'cos we have experience of the kit, and it works for us
The fact you've got ATA66 and striped drives is worth mentioning...

OP
now that I think about it I does seem to make good sense, to have all that extra info. good deal, Ill add all that stuff into my sig when I get home. Please people hopefully you all are reading this, do as yuppie and I are doing, it really will help a bundle. all we have to do is in the intial post we jsut check mark the signature box and thats it. so it wont show up on every darn post.
there is a line behind me gotta go

OP
heh my friend I think u missed thewhole point we were trying to put our rigs in our signatures, and wanting everybody to do the same, so when they asked a question, we had a decent amount of basic background information.
Secondly ur using 1280 on a 21 inch monitor? good lord man Im running 1600x1200 on both my 19 inch monitors right now

Well, I can only run at 1280*1024 because that's the max resolution of my 18" LCD flat panel

OP
ISgh I guess this isnt going to work, Iv seen to many new/even old gumbas/dweebs/goofs/goons posting, and not even leaving an inkling of an idea with us what their systems are other then vid cards at the most. And then they ask for troubleshooting help. *sigh*
I worked with this freaking moron for a few hours at least and kept on askign him what his mobo and other stuff was, and he said he wasnt sure but was POSITIVE it was all compatible, so we tried everything from old drivers to reinstalls. I finally went over to the guys house and do u know what he had in his box? an alladin Ali V motherboard, which has a knwon instability with a tnt2 card. I mean can u imagine? Hes lucky I wasnt at home and in reach of my shotgun.

You should have shot this guy.
DEATH TO STUPID NEWBIES.
I've just written a FAQ to install Win2k. The first things I ask is to have a Win2k CD and a brain. The CD is easyer to get.
Awx

I also think you should have shot that moron (at least maim his hand so that he cant use a computer again unless he learns to type with his nose). I know that feeling from another moron who took a network engineering class to pass the MSCE cert tests and passed the NetEssentials test. Then he calls me up and asks me how to network his two win 95 systems.
