Why DirectX 6.0 and 7.0 not compatible?

My OS is Windows 2000 Professional on a PIII-450MHz CPU and 256MB of PC-100 SDRAM memory.

I have a Hercules/Guillemot Prophet 3D DDR-DVI GeForce 256 DDR video
card running on nVIDIA’s official Detonator 2 (v 5.22) drivers. My OS
is Windows 2000 Professional on a PIII-450MHz CPU and 256MB of PC-100
SDRAM memory.
The issues at hand is the fact that non of the following games work
under this system (when I click on their icons, the hard drive reads a
bit of info but nothing happens, I even don’t get any far from the
desktop at all)
Heretic II
SiN
SiN official mission pack: Wages of SiN
Even the official nVIDIA technology demos (the bike, bee) does not
work stating that it requires DirectX 6.0 to operate.
The only working games so far are Quake III Arena and DAIKATANA.
I even tried the previous version of drivers (3.78 official DDR
Hercules drivers) with no luck.
Would you please help me? Thanks in advance!

I'll install Sin on my PC at home tonight and see what happens. My spec is a bit different to yours, but it may help highlight the problem a bit more.
(Have you tried installing all of the patches for Sin?)

Thanks for the message. Yes I have installed the lastes patch. According to MS Technical Support (DirectX Guru) it is impossible to get away form DrirectX 7a (even using the DirectX Unintaller program) since Win2K will rebuild it on the fly (from a Protected Folder Cache).
I just realized that during SiN installation it asked me if I want to install DirectX MEDIA, and I said NO. MS tech support rep (an avid game player himself) suggested installing DirectX MEDIA.
I will uninstall and re-install SiN and choose install DirectX Media to see what happens.

I got that cart to
go to gullemot.com
download the latest drivers
now you can use direct x on the cart
at the moment you use win nt 4 drivers, not the win 2000 drivers
the cart will work, but he can only use dx version 3
