I've pulled all my cards, just using the Video now...and still no luck.

Any hints? I need this back up--I don't want to be stuck with 98!

I only have a couple of suggestions. How is the CD? I would imagine that if you are working with Win2K AS on a desktop, that you might be using an evaluation/MSDN/burn of it. I had something similar happen with a bad disc. Also, you could try using a different reader. Another thing to look at is the hard drive. Have you run check disk on it? You may have a few bad sectors on it.

where are u installing it in?
separate partition because that's what u should. is ur harddrive formatted properly? try partitioning ur HD into FAT16 not FAT32 and try installing win2000. also have u checked taht ur peripherals are plugged into the right place- when i tried installing win 4.0 it took my 2 days to find out that there wasn't anything wrong with the hardware nor the FAT but instaed of plugging in the mouse in the port i plugged in 2 keyboards so the installation just crashed when it was detecting my hardware configuration!

smells like ACPI problem....I don't know if you can launch the setup with some option to turn off the detection and use of that feature.
I didn't understand on what machine u want to install 2000 on....
Another Hint...before reinstalling, completely erase the partition, formatting it with another file system (ext2, why not)..I tell u so because sometimes I found a reinstallation (with format at the beginning) with components selected from the precedent installation, and not selected in the present.....strange,huh?).

I always install off a fresh format, or I format it in the setup. Always.

All my peripherals are in the right place--Keyboard on PS2 and mouse on USB.

It's running now, but it crashes all the time...and I don't understand why?

Is the Athlon and VIA chipset that troubled???
I had NO problems with a COMPAQ on a PIII?!

No...haven't had the opportunity to pull the ATI out of this PC.

I've tried all the newer drivers, from 5.22 release on.

no difference

I have had the same problem on one of my boxes some time ago. W2K would not go to the end of installation.
The solution was to unplug my usb webcam.
The installer did not like something being hooked to the usb port (driver prob?).
Then it installed OK.
