Did you enable Samba to support encrypted passwords?

OP
Jep I did that:
read I can access the server but not directly only by entering a sharename ie:
\\server\share

All I can say is it works fine here.
I'm using samba on 3 machines all running Red Hat 6.1 and samba-2.0.5a. Samba is setup to authenticate through an NT domain.

I've the same prob : I can't access my SaMBa sharing.
But my SaMBa does not support encrypted pwd. Under Win98 with EnablePlainTextPassword, I was able to access it but with the same trick, it still does not work (btw, the DWORD isn't the same under Win2k).
Anyway, I can't access my SaMBa. I'll be interested with the answer.

I can connect using W2K no problem. I said NT because samba authenticates the user via the NT domain. I don't do share level or user level authentication (user level is probably what you're using)
There is a .reg file for W2K in the 2.0.5a distribution of samba. I haven't used it though. Here's it's contents:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Parameters]
"EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001
