Win2k + Via Busmastering?

This is a discussion about Win2k + Via Busmastering? in the Windows Hardware category; Just installed my copy of Win2k Pro Final. (Won from a MS drawing). Now, I'm noticing that the when hard-drive or (especially) CD-ROM usage is high, the system becomes remarkably unresponsive. E. g. , it is impossible to navigate in an IE window while installing something off a CD.

So, generally, IDE access seems slow.

I have: AMD Athlon550, 128 MB RAM, and Asus K7M with Via MVP4 (686A) southbridge.

I am led to believe that UDMA is either not enabled or is not being used correctly.

Are there 2000-compatible VIA drivers out there? If not, will there be shortly?

Seems like there should be, VIA had plenty of time to act on this one...

Sadly like many companies it seems that Via has taken the position of waiting till some year, century, millenium after the 17th.
