Windows 2000 problem
This is a discussion about Windows 2000 problem in the Windows Hardware category; I currently have a Dell Demension XPSt600r. The hardware consist of 600r chip,256sdram,27gig hd. Diamond Viper 32mb Vid Card. Ultra66 Controller,Hp 9100 Cdr. My problem is. . Some time ago I put windows 2k as a dual boot with windows9x and it ran great.

My problem is.. Some time ago I put windows 2k as a dual boot with windows9x and it ran great.Afer having win9x on here by itself. I tried to install over win9x and I even attemped a clean install.My problem is that for no apparent reason the machine will FREEZE.I mean nothing I must reset the pc to get it to work.Nothing i press or do gives a response.Sometimes it will run for minutes without freezing sometimes hours.I ve tried it all to make it freeze so i could narrow down the problem but no luck.I also checked with dell and they said this particular machine should have no problems with win2k although they wont give me tech support cause it Win2k is not the installed OS.Any comments or ideas are appreciated

oooo could be a problem.
dell is proprietary. mb and everything. there is a specific way u install software for them.
ew have all dells at work (about 20 of them) all came with nt4.0.
well if i reload a system, i have to hit f6 or sunthin and load dell drivers for it.
if i dont the system wont install and freezes.

I have a Dell XPS T550 running Win2K (with SP1) now for the last several months without any (major) hassle, BUT like you, I did at one point have major probs with the system locking up (in games, apps, the desktop etc) for no reason...I narrowed it down to Nvidia drivers for my GeForce card (if you look thru this board you'll see that your individual configuration really does affect the stability and performance of those drivers - tho I've since found that the new 6.62 WHQL drivers are the most stable I've used yet) so I'd advise uninstalling completely whatever drivers you're using now and trying those 6.62 drivers.
