me too, i have exactly the same problem. even before installing 7.1 .
Have you guys installed all the Service Packs? and all the system updates?

Yes, I have also noticed that running CD Direct
also hangs the PC.
Looks like a complete reinstall.

I would try to reinstall the whole system again, if the problem persists It's probably hardware prablems!
