Windows File Protection.

Since I don't feel like digging around on this subject, could anyone tell me how to turn off system file protection? I'm pretty sick of Windows replacing Notepad (Yes, Notepad, is that really nessicary to run a system?) whenever I try to put a copy of Metapad (Much better then Notepad) in instead.

I read that there is a utility to uninstall the beta DirectX 8 at I did not install DirectX 8 myself so I cannot comment on functionality. .

Disk Stripping & Win2K Professional?

I know that Win2K professional does not support Disk Stripping initially but I heard there is a way with either a RegHack to enable this function?, if this is true where would I be able to get this from? or how to do it? Thanks in advance!!!.

I have a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI and a crappy 15 monitor. Is there a program I can install that will set the resolution of different resolutions? I use a 1152x864 desktop resolution but 800x600 for games and if i use a 1152x864 desktop the 800x600 refresh rate is 60 hz when it should be 85 hz.

Deleting Recycle bin

Icons in 256 colors

I can't get my icons to show more than 256 colors. It all started today. Toggling Show icons using all possible colors doesn't matter. I've tried SP1 reinstalling Win2k. . . Rebuilding icons in TweakUI doesn't fix it either.

Win 2k install problmes

When I try to intsall Win 2k I get an error, Setup was unable to install Windows Boot Loader. Ensure that your c: drive is formated and that the drive is not damaged. I know that the HD is fine, I can use it on other comps.

Running Command Line at startup

I would like to know how I can run a couple of command line commands at startup. I need to use ipconfig /release and /renew when I log on as my cable modem won't work until I do. Something slightly incompatible between my ISP and Win2K (they say).

How to dual boot w2k and win98se?

I'm running w2k on my computer right now, and have a 6GB HD (configured with win98se) sitting in other computer. . Could I put the win98se HD to my new computer without formatting them all over again? Currently the system is running on NTFS and kinda confused if I have to change all HDs to FAT32 to run the win98se HD.

Memory Swapping Issue

Iv tried the NetOptomiser program from win2k, and used its disable paging exectuive and large cache options, but found they hate up way too much of my 192 meg ram very quicly, so i turned them off again, rebooted, but im not sure if its actually reverted or not.

Win NT and USB devices??

Does anyone know if Win NT 4 supports USB devices, particularly zip drives and drawing tablets. If not, does anyone know of any workaround. I recently changed from win 98 to win nt workstation and it would be bad if now my USB devices didn't work.

SMTP Service -- relocate mailroot

I'm interested in relocating the \Inetpub\mailroot directory to a different directory on a different drive. I've succeeded in moving everything but the Pickup and Queue directories, which are now stubbornly residing in my web hierarchy.
