win2k and ATX form factor

Is it just me, or does everybody's win2k machine act like it's on an AT power supply? When I shut down, it goes all the way to it is now safe to turn off your computer instead of shutting down like it's suppose to on an ATX power supply, I have win98 on this machine also, and when I shut down in 98, it does shut do ...

Restoring registry from repair console

Hi All, Can someone tell me how to restore registry files in the repair console? I selected ACPI and no my system won't boot, won't load last known good config, and won't go into safe mode. I backed up my registry before I did it but I can't figure out how to restore it now.

I wish there were some standards for deciding and submitting software compatibility. Many times do I see software marked as green (compatible), when in fact people have to do a bit or a lot of tweaking to get it to run under Win2k.

Does anyone know if there's a way (reg hacks) to move that God forsaken help item in the root of the start menu in NT4. I hate it, if i want help i come here or M$ knowledge base. Besides, if i needed basic help, I shouldn't be using NT4.

When I try to connect to my ISP (Claranet), it can take upwards of 15 redials to connect. If I connect to other ISP's (e. g. Freeserve), it connects first time. Claranet connects first time in Win98SE.

Did anybody tried the new W9x 5. 08 drivers? I installed them yesterday night on my dual boot box. Yes I know this post is a little off-topic, but maybe not so as I constantly compare performance between W2k and W98 and progress made by the new OS.

I'm poking through my services, and I see one called Windows Time. I am driven to assuming that the purpose of the services is not unlike TimeServ which was in the NT4 ResKit. I would like to use this to keep my system clock accurate, but I can't figure out how to configure it (point it to the time server).

Access to NT share from DOS

Can anyone help me with this? I have a computer with a 3Com 3c905tx NIC and I need to boot from a floppy and connect to an NT4 server. I have used the network client administrator, (and i have the right NIC drivers from a floppy i made from Ghost 6.

Hi! I've got a P166-mmx, 4. 3Gb HDD and 64MB or RAM, and I'm currently running NT4. 0 which is wonderful, it's a little slow starting up, but it's much better than Win 9x, and I don't get crashes Now.

I’m looking to extend they life of my dual-PII 333MHz (IntelliStation M Pro, LX chipset) until the end of this year (when I’m due for a new one). I’m not interested in overclocking. Also, I wish to keep the machine fully intact instead of migrating some components to a new machine.
