A MALICIOUS PROGRAM concealed in a digitized video clip has compromised security on thousands of computers linked to the Internet by always-on connections such as DSL, cable modems, or company networks, a network security firm reported Thursday.

With the program installed on so many machines, the hackers could easily use the compromised machines to launch a distributed denial of service attack like that which affected a number of e-commerce Web sites earlier this year, Network Security (Netsec) said in a statement.

(NASDAQ:TDFX) today announced that, according to leading research firm PC Data, the company´s Voodoo3 2000 PCI product has held the number one spot as measured by unit sales for 12 consecutive months. The Voodoo3 family of products has dominated the retail market holding the number one market share position since its introduction April 1999.

For April, PC Data´s report showed that 3dfx had the top three selling retail graphics boards in the U.S. in terms of revenue, with the Voodoo3 2000 PCI, Voodoo3 3000 PCI and the Voodoo3 3000 AGP. Additionally, 3dfx held four of the top five spots for revenue, with the Voodoo3 3500 in the number five spot.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS00-040 announces the availability of a patch that eliminates a vulnerability in Microsoft:registered: Windows NT 4.0.

What's the scope of the vulnerability?

This vulnerability could allow denial of service attacks against a Windows NT 4.0 machine. If a malicious user sent an affected machine a particular type of malformed request for remote registry access, it could cause Windows NT 4.0 to fail.

Under default conditions, only authenticated users users with an account and password on the network -- could exploit this vulnerability. If a machine has been configured to deny all registry access requests, it would not be affected by this vulnerability under any conditions. An affected machine could be put back into service by rebooting.
