While the FX5950 has yet another really huge fan system design, it's actually the best fan design to come with one of the high end Nvidias. The size isn't a surprise either – ever since the 5800FX was released readers have been prepared for these honkers. The real surprise though, is in the LACK of noise this thing generates... on boot up the FX5900 would spin up fairly loud, but this baby boots up with a quiet purr that can barely compete against the other components in the system. Beautiful.Read more

We've got a double-shot of NVIDIA graphics goodness coming to you today, in the form of the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra & GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. NVIDIA's new flagship GPU and new mainstream card, along with the soon to be released Detonator FX 52.16 drivers, improve upon the previous generation, in more ways than one. After comparing the image quality and performance of these two new products, choosing a winner in this round of the 3D wars becomes much more difficult. It looks like NVIDIA are on to a winner with their new mid-range entrant. Price is what's most exciting, with it being set at $199 (yes, for the 900MHz mem equipped Ultra version) it's a firm competitor to 9600XT. With it beating 9600XT in the majority of our tests, I can clearly see why NVIDIA are more excited about 5700 Ultra than any other FX product so far.NV38 is more evolution than revolution, being no more than a speed bumped NV35. However it seems to overclock a lot better than the outgoing version, pointing to core enhancements and elimination of hot spots, to give it some headroom. It's as quick as 9800XT for the most part, something we'll confirm properly with a new suite of tests in reviews featuring boards from retail partners. It's just a little too pricey.Read more

So what has changed? The most noticeable item is the cooling system. It has changed again and it resembles the cooling setup from the FX 5800 which came under a lot of criticism. However, this card is a lot quieter than the original setup that Nvidia was using before. The 5950 is a 2 slot design and exhausts the air out of the back of your case which is one of the nice things about the cooler. The 5700 Ultra’s cooling system looks like a slim version of the 5900 Ultra’s. Clock frequencies have been increased and new drivers released, but do the 5950 Ultra and 5700 Ultra have what it takes to outperform the competition? Let’s find out!Read more
