AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Review

Today we’re checking out the $200 Ryzen 5 2600 and we’ll be taking it for a spin on the impressive new Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero, a $300 AMD X470 motherboard with all the bells and whistles you can imagine. Even though the Ryzen 5 2600 is better suited to more affordable motherboards like the ROG Strix X470-F Gaming or the Prime X470-Pro considering its price, the motherboard choice shouldn't affect performance while we get the opportunity to showcase this ROG board, in what is another of the multiple different tests we've planned for the coming weeks.

The R5 2600 is $30 cheaper than the 2600X we tested on 2nd-gen Ryzen's launch day. That 13% saving sees operating clock speeds reduced by 6-7%, while the box cooler has been downgraded from the Wraith Spire to the dinky little Wraith Stealth. We’ll check out how that performs later on.

ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition: finally a really fast screen

In gaming every second counts, a moment too late and it’s game over. This certainly applies to fps-focused games such as Counter-Strike and Overwatch. ASUS plays cleverly into this with its new Scar edition notebooks and we tested the 17” model - the ASUS Strix Scar GL703VM-EE099T, a laptop with a price tag of around 1850 euros and a super-fast screen.

Gaming laptops often look like a busy neon-lit street in the evening but not everyone is looking for that effect. RGB lighting is fun, but also distracting. In addition, the question is whether it is always useful to immediately draw attention to your gaming hobby, especially if you just want to have a powerful machine at your disposal at school, university or at work, which is also good for gaming in your free time.

BIOSTAR Racing Z370GT6 LGA1151 Motherboard Review

With the Z370GT6 LGA1151 board for the newest Coffee Lake Intel processors, BIOSTAR ticks the necessary boxes by including decent overclocking capabilities, a refreshed Racing theme and UEFI interface, but also an easy to use Windows utility. The M.2 slots do support Intel Optane Techology and for the secondary slot the manufacturer has also included a cooling heatsink. The board performance is in-line with the other Z370 models we have tested in the past, which have the latest Intel BIOS fixes applied.

Corsair HS60 Headset Review

We all know Corsair. They're practically a household name in the PC components and peripherals industry now, and their new HS60 headset is a 3.5mm jack based unit designed to bridge the gap between the more budget oriented HS50's and higher end Void and Void Pro RGB units. In fact, we looked at the two above units within four months of each other toward the end of last year, and you can check out the reviews of them here and here. We liked both, so it remains to be seen if the relatively new HS60s will bring anything new to the table, or if they're merely a refinement of an already tried and tested formula.

One of the most obvious upgrades over the very 'back to basics' HS50's is the inclusion of 7.1 Surround through a 3.5mm to USB adapter included in the box. Now, naturally, this is not 'true' surround, and a truly good implementation of the effect is very hard to achieve inside two small earcups with 50mm drivers. That said, it has been done, as noted in my review of the Asus ROG Strix Fusion 500s, as well as my long-term daily driver, Kingston's Hyper X Cloud IIs.

Genius GX Gaming Headset HS-G680 Review

Today we will be covering the GX Gaming Headset HS-G680 from Genius. For the most part, the Genius products are primarily featured on Amazon. They also do have a website that shows off the products in a little more detail. Genius isnt considered top of the line in the audio world but I have been reading some encouraging feedback about their products. For the majority of us we want a headset that is comfortable and doesn’t crackle when we turn up t he sound. First off I like the headband style of the G680 reminds me of my favorite headset to date. SteelSeries made a headset with this style and they where the most comfortable I have ever worn. We at FunkyKit, have covered Genius products in the past and have had a great time doing so. I am excited to see what they have to offer with the HS-G680!

Gigabyte Aero 15X v8 Review

Today we’re taking a closer look at the Gigabyte Aero 15X (2018 model), which was launched alongside Intel’s new H-series Coffee Lake processors a couple of weeks ago. Bringing up to 6 cores and 12 threads to the laptop form factor, we’ve covered the new CPUs in depth already, so now our focus is on Gigabyte’s latest premium laptop.

We looked at the original Aero 15 last year and were pretty impressed with most aspects. The Aero 15X is not a massive departure from what we had before, but we there are hardware improvements and other changes that help refine the laptop. And Gigabyte is key to stress this isn’t just a gaming laptop, but a machine designed for productivity, and that shows with features like an X-Rite certified display.

Manticore: Galaxy on Fire Review

I always wonder when playing flight games, what exactly the developers think is fun in the game. Manticore: Galaxy on Fire is yet another aerial combat game that for me, misses the fundamental joy of flying.

The freedom that comes with flight is something man has dreamed of since at least Da Vinci. Now we have actual flying machines, but as it turns out, they’re really really complicated. These games are the compromise, they promise the total freedom from the ground we’ve craved for years, but can never quite deliver.

Thermaltake Grand RGB 1200W Platinum PSU Review

When you start getting into high power PSUs, there are simply not a lot of brands you should trust expensive hardware to. Thermaltake is one of the oldest high power PSU sellers. Do the Frag Harder Disco Lights help it out when we put it on the load tester No. Does TT still have the PSU chops to hang at 1.2 kilowatts Yes, it surely does.

Today, Thermaltake Technology Company is back for another trip through our power supply testing program with a more value oriented product than we last saw from them. As a company, Thermaltake has a rather short history being founded in just 1999, but in that short time they have grown rapidly. While Thermaltake's primary focus has been on thermal solutions, it has for some time now maintained a group of product lines dedicated to power supplies. The early power supplies in these lines were often of lower quality but over the years they have taken their power supply business in a new, and quite frankly better, direction as they paired with higher quality OEMs like CWT and Enhance. Today, we are looking at a new product that is part of the Toughpower Grand series of power supplies from Thermaltake, the Toughpower Grand RGB 1200W Platinum (TPG-1200AH3FCP, PS-TPG-1200F1FAPx-1, or TPG-1200F1FAP).
