Anyone interested in leading edge semiconductors knows that Intel is late with its newest manufacturing process. The 10nm node was first announced in 2014, to be released in 2016. While officially shipping for revenue by 31 December 2017, the only way we knew to get hold of an Intel 10nm x86 CPU was if you happened to be a Chinese school and work with a specific distributor to buy a specific laptop.We pulled in a few favors from within the industry and managed to source the laptop for review.

Radeon VII 16GB HBM 2 memory cost around $320

Currently the HBM 2 chips that AMD uses come in 4GB size and in order to get to 16GB, AMD had to take four HBM 2 chips. Launching a card with 16GB might sound like overkill but it was an engineering rather than a business decision. Radeon Instinct MI50 card based on 7nm is 16GB and AMD didn’t want to set aside a huge engineering team to create a custom 8GB version of that card that would be cheaper and more appropriate for healthy gaming market margins. AMD could have disabled 8GB, but it would still end up paying for the whole 16GB HBM 2.

Windows Server 2019 vs. Linux vs. FreeBSD Gigabit & 10GbE Networking Performance

FreeBSD 12.0, Windows Server 2019, and five Linux distributions were tested for comparing the Gigabit and 10GbE networking performance as part of our latest benchmarks. Additionally, the performance was looked at for the Mellanox 10GbE adapter when also using the company's Linux tuning script compared to the out-of-the-box performance on the enterprise Linux distribution releases.
