Examining Windows 10 Anniversary Update's Driver Signing Enforcement Policy

Windows 10 Anniversary Update came out at the beginning of August, with plenty of new user-facing features. There were also plenty of changes under the hood as well, including a change in policy regarding how Windows 10 handles device drivers.

When the 64-bit versions of Windows launched over a decade ago, as a security measure Microsoft decided to require that all kernel mode drivers must be signed to be loaded. Under the aptly named cross-signing requirement, hardware vendors would need to get a certificate from one of the major certificate authorities, and use that to sign their drivers. The idea being that by enforcing signing restrictions, it would be much harder for malware to masquerade as legitimate drivers.

Gigabyte P57X v6 GTX 1070 Gaming Laptop Review

Consumers usually consider gaming laptops instead of traditional desktops because of space constraints or require a portable form factor. While this is the theory, many gaming laptops sporting impressive specifications are cumbersome and difficult to carry on long journeys. Unfortunately, technological restrictions have made companies employ heftier cooling hardware to prevent thermal throttling which results in a thicker frame. This also increases the weight and makes one question if the extra horsepower is worth the inconvenience. Honestly, I’ve never understood the appeal of extremely heavy gaming laptops featuring two MXM cards given the limited upgrade path and expense. In an ideal world, gaming laptops should retain a lightweight construction and find a better balance between portability and raw performance. Thankfully, new manufacturing processes and refinements in the cooling apparatus have helped matters.

Interestingly, Gigabyte has unveiled a brand new laptop entitled the Aero 14 which manages to incorporate a relatively capable graphics chip. Even though the performance pales in comparison to higher-end Pascal offerings, it’s a decent solution and has enough horsepower to uphold stable frame rates when applying modest graphical presets. Unbelievably, this enjoyable gaming experience is possible on a machine weighing a mere 1.89Kg and measuring 19.9mm thick.

Inateck FD2102 USB 3.0 Docking Station Review With Offline Clone Function

If you have ever needed to clone or copy a hard drive you know that can be a daunting task if you don'€™t have the correct software. The folks over at Inateck have developed a USB 3.0 to SATA Dual-Bay storage drive docking station that also features an offline clone function by simply pressing a button. That means no PC is required. You just insert the drive you want to clone in slot A and a blank drive without partitions into slot B and press the €œCopy€ button...

Moto G4 Play Review: Budget Android, Full-Featured And Unlocked

Although most of us would prefer to own all of the latest and greatest smartphones, there are plenty of us who don’t need all of the power and features today’s top phones have to offer. In addition, the high price tags on today's flagship phones presents a barrier for many. For casual smartphone users, there isn’t enough to gain by spending many hundreds of dollars more on a high end phone versus a more modest (and budget-friendly) model. It is for these reasons that Moto created the Moto G4 Play.

As the third member of the new Moto G family, the Moto G4 Play is designed for fundamental smartphone functionality -- staying in touch with family and friends, catching up on the news, playing games, and taking pictures, etc. In addition to delivering reliable performance for these key functions, Moto focused on keeping the phone affordable and is offering it unlocked...

noblechairs EPIC Series Chair Review

Picking the right chair to go with your desk, so you can kick back and enjoy your games, or even just feel comfortable for those long work hours, can be a demanding task. The market is packed with options, ranging from the budget offerings, to hundreds, even thousands of pounds. Gaming chairs are big business these days, and while the market is flooded with affordable products ranging from £100-200, there’s not a growing market for premium products, and that’s where noblechairs come in.

“Avant-garde office chair brand noblechairs raises the bar up high by bringing you its impressive EPIC series swivel chairs pioneering the world’s first gaming chair featuring valuable and exceedingly durable real leather covering. Their equally well-equipped faux leather siblings are made of 100% vegan polyurethane (PU) with similarly outstanding characteristics and a 25 per cent higher material thickness of 1.5 millimetres. The entire range of noblechairs’ classy gamer seats shares the same stellar German design that strikes a perfect balance between luxury car-inspired appearance and materials as well as idiosyncratic gamer chair styling and ergonomics descended from racing car seats. The resulting discreet design without garish colouring creates an air of noblesse and renders the noblechairs gaming chairs simply beautiful.” – noblechairs

Today, we’ll be taking a look at the noblechairs EPIC, their PU leather covered model which clocks in a little over £300, and while that’s not exactly loose change, it’s still noticeably cheaper than their genuine leather version of the same chair, which comes in at a wallet-busting £490. Of course, for those familiar with high-quality chairs, this isn’t even close to really expensive desktop chairs, but it’s certainly the upper end for most consumers and the general gaming chair market.

Tesoro Gram Spectrum

With us being a few years into the whole RGB movement with mechanical keyboards, we are still seeing some companies finally moving their keyboards over to RGB and others have been refining their original designs. At this point, I have tested and covered just about everything and I think almost every day I’m turning down companies who want to send more and more of the same. I nearly did the same with the Gram Spectrum from Tesoro but the fact it was available in an all white design caught my eye. With everyone else only selling them in black, it is nice to see something a little different. On top of that, the Gram Spectrum also has Tesoro’s new switch called the Tesoro Agile with a short throw and short actuation point. So today I’m going to check out the Gram Spectrum and see what it is all about in all of its pale glory and find out how the new switches compare to the rest of the market.

Tt eSports Cronos GO Review

Some gamers may find themselves gaming on the move more regularly than others. Whether it be at LAN events, or using mobile devices or simply migrating from platform to platform, one thing is for sure, not everyone appreciates a huge headset that could get wrecked when you are moving around. Acknowledging this, Tt eSPORTS have created a lightweight supra-aural (on-ear) headset precisely for this purpose.

In our last outing with the Cronos AD, we found that Tt eSPORTS had developed a well-rounded, comfortable headset. Being part of the Cronos series, the GO features a similar design ethic to other Cronos headsets, including the Tt eSPORTS Battle Dragon with RED LEDs, as the retractable microphone as seen on the AD. To cut the weight down, the Cronos GO features a slim foldable headset frame, and is packed with carefully tuned 38mm drivers.
