Requires D3D, won't install at all, crashes if installed under 98 and run under NT4.

Received the follow messages:
1) Work with 1.70 patch under Windows 2000
2) You need Patch 1.7 + latest Compatibility-Update from MS
3) Works for a few maps then drops me to the desktop. Even with the latest drivers and patches
4) Doesn't work under Win 2k SP2, even with comaptibility layer and Bullfrog patches on.

Slow and crash-happy. Despite my CPU, video card and memory being far superior to the game's suggested requirements, the game becomes a slideshow with more than 10 or so units on screen at a time; if you factored in the hardware available at the game's release, it would be unplayable. Crashes to desktop and hard-locks are frequent.

No way in hell does this work in XP. Regardless of the amount of tweaks you try, it is still a crasher.

I installed normally, then used the patch to upgrade to 1.7. After that I used a no CD patch. This allowed me to set the compatibility mode to "Windows 98" without any crashes when I run the game. Inside the game, it is a little laggy in the menus, but once you get in the game it runs fast. Also, if you keep the DK2 CD in your drive, it will still play all of the cutscene movies.

I recently installed this after several years of it sitting on my shelf. I have an Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 with 1024MB of RAM and a 2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 processor and Direct x 9.1. Ihave tried running this game with all of the options in compatability mode but when the initial intro movies have finished and the menu loads up, there is supposed to be a 3D background, this background flickers for a second and then all I can see is a black screen with the menu on. It is the same in-game also, except all I see is the tool-tips in the top right corner.

Using the 1.7 patch and a no-cd patch, it seems to work fine under Windows XP Home - I'm up to level 10 without a crash and I've got all the extra settings ticked and high quality graphics and sound options selected too. Under XP Pro, it still crashes. I also have a Bochs emulator running Win98 on my Windows XP Pro and it runs ok in that, but have to turn off some of the high quality settings.

The game works but I experience some gameplay issues in Windows 2000 that I haven't had before in Windows 98Se.
For example:
- cheat codes don't work.
- cannot seem to be able to attract Fireflies, Goblins, Rogues, Black Knights or Fallen Angels in the latter levels of the campaign
- random messages of "The Gods have accepted your sacrifice" without sacrificing anything (even got a Goblin this way!)

Other than that: Great game!

Good game, one of my old-time favourites. However after 10-20 minutes of playing I find myself commanding my my desktop shortcuts! No error messages from game or OS. Indication to a close crash is a choppy sound. Found out myself the game *never crashes* when sound is off - mean alternative huh...

1.6 patch - works like a charm in Vista, if installed and run in Compatibility Mode:2000

This is the first time ever, in the history of the game, that I have been able to get it to run consistently, without all the random crashes to the desktop with no warning and no error.

Works fine in Vista x86 (64 bit NOT tested). I've had one crash after something like 3 hours, but luckily I had just finished a level and saved the game. Works by installing the game, patching to 1.7, applying the no-cd , and setting Compatibility Mode to "Windows XP SP2". Optionally (if you want improved video quality) you can set -32biteverything on the command line, but the game will work regardless. No issues with Aero support. Resolutions above 1024x768 cause some text to become invisible, because Dungeon Keeper does not have a large enough font, but keeper notices ("A Bile Demon has become unhappy because he hasn't been paid", etc) are still visible (albeit in very tiny writing). Widescreen resolutions (1280x800, 1680x1050, 1920x1200) cause the minimap to deform and minor glitches in researching spells/traps, but no playability issues. Set the resolution by going into regedit and editing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video\Screen Width and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video\Screen Height. Be sure to set the editing mode in regedit from "Hexadecimal" to "Decimal".

Finally got it to work.. v1.7 under Windows Vista 32bit.. Win XP SP2 Compatibility..
When I edited the registry like that other person suggested, It wouldn't start/load any games anymore.. And then I went into options, and checked the box next to 'hardware acceleration' and that made it stop crashing/being slow.

So now, I played DK2 non-stop for a few hours, completed all 6 pet dungeons without the game ever crashing :D -relieved-

So yeah, I hope this helps... someone at least :P

- update to version 1.3
- patch to 1.7
- run dk 2 with no cd
* Game crashed after 30 seconds

- change compatibility to win 95
* Game runs with no problems

** Game does not run with compatibility mode for win98, winNT or win2000

Hope this one helps.

A good ideea is to go in the control panel and set to 16 bit instead of 32 bit. It will solve the crush problem, and in the worst case scenario you will play the game with a few colors.

As soon as the .exe is clicked, it crashes with "dkII.exe has stopped working" error. Does this on all compatibility options.
