Installation proceeds fine. The game starts up fine until I click on the book to enter the actual game. The screen then goes blank and the game HOGS the CPU. It takes a ton of patience for me to then shut the faulty application and continue using Windows without a restart

Well, It's a pity that I had so many problems to run this exceptional game in XP platform.
The last platform in which I could run this game was Windows 2000 rofessional.
I'll try to reinstall this version in a partition of my computer.

Installs fine, but crashes on start. I've tried win98 compatibility mode, forcing 640x480 resolution, using quicktime 4 and using graphics compatibility options from nvidia control panel... does not work.

I, too, was having a problem with Myst crashing several seconds after startup. It had something to do with QuickTime. I finally fixed it by (1) Installing the version of QuickTime that came with the software, and (2) going into the QuickTime "Video Settings" tab and deselecting the "Enable DCI" option.
It works with QT 6.5, but I couldn't get it to work with the latest QT 7.
