Received the follow messages:
1) Mouse movement is erractic at times (mouse seems unresponsive, and then jumps accross the screen). Game *will* crash if you use more than 1 CPU. ATL-Tab switching causes the mouse to go nuts as described above.
2) Runs ok install of original cd, and off it went. No choppiness, much more responsive with dual cpu's (even on huge map with 8 enemies and big fleets)it takes less than a second to end turn
3) game locks when choosing the race in Single-/or Multiplayer Game; Got the latest patch (1.31); also tried the application compatibilitay tool with some configs but didnt help;
4) The game runs fine with only one flaw: the mouse freezes in place on the production selection screen. This can be worked around by right-clicking which unfreezes the mouse.
5) The mouse freeze if you have old drivers of NVIDIA. Try the new Detonator 4 (beta) 5.13.01.1210 it will work.
6) According to my tests, Master of Orion 2 (with latest 1.31 patch, avalaible at http://orion.rihkama.net/moo2/updates.php - NO direct linking to patch file!) works mostly fine. Several times in dialogs mouse starts to jerk but you can usually skip this by holding left mouse button down. Also, on my computer (dual Celeron 400, Matrox G450 etc.) some parts of display start to flash requiring to restart game. I also encountered mouse jerking all the time when I updated Microsoft's IntelliPoint software. Generally, MOO2 has worked fine on W2K with latest patches/service packs.

Works only when I turn DirectDraw acceleration off. For the Dos-Version of the game you will need a vesa-driver (VDMSound's built-in vesa-emulation didn't work well fo me).

This game won't run due to a missing dplay.dll, although it runs fine on Windows XP.

If you search for the dplay.dll on the internet you can download it and put it in your windows directory. It should run in Vista after that.

The generic dplay.dll was very helpful. It's working great in Vista Business right now.

once the Dplay.dll file was unzipped and placed into the Windows folder (directory) i had to adjust the color to 16bit instead of 32 bit. seems to work good after that.

Problem: Installer never started (Autorun prog sdid start). Solution: Copied all files by hand to a CD; Problem: Orioncd.ini missing; Solution copied by hand from a XP-System. Used above mentioned dplay.dll -Y works very fine under "Windows Vista home basic, 64 bit Edition". (Geez - what a long product name)

I had to bring dplay.dll to make the program start with Vista.
It is still not working, it crashes after the selecting name and banner.

If you using windows vista and it's not working use DosBox. Then use DosBox to run orion2.exe (not orion95.exe). You won't need any dplay.dll stuff.

I have loaded MOO2 on my XP based machine and DO NOT use Dosbox. Instead, I went to every exe file and set it to win95 compatibility mode under Properties. I also set the memory allocated to it to 4 MB where ever it allows me to. Every once in a while my graphics messes up. When this happens, I save game (if I am able to) shut down, and restart the game. If this does not work after a couple of tries, I give up and come back later. 9 times out of 10 it will be back to normal.
