Not sure you can do just the desktop icons.

Open up registry editor then navigate to the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

In the right side of the panes you want to edit the following value: Shell Icon Size

The value for it is pixels so 16 will be smaller icons while 32
will be larger.

Reboot for the change to take affect.

***You should backup the key before you start modifying***

Right click your desktop.

Properties >> appearance >> advanced >> (dropdown item box) >> icon

then change size in the size drop down box to what ever you like. You can also adjust the icon spacing here too.

Unless you are using "Windows Classic" setting that does not always work as those buttons will be greyed out.

From advanced tab:

Quote:If you select a windows and buttons setting other then Windows Classic, it will override the following setting, except in some older programs
