the first problem is a PnP US Robotics 56k modem (ISA), the modem seems to install but cannot dial out, gives error message when trying to dial. Tried installing any and all of the 3com and US Robotics 56 modems, also tried Installing any and all of the Standard 56k modems and changing COM ports. Also, he recieved a BSOD Stop Error upon booting up after installing a Parallel Port ZIP Drive (100). Any Suggestions?

I have a USR Sportster Voice 56K and it works just fine. Is is irq sharing with anything? I might suggest using the jumper on the modem and configuring the com port and irq manually and see if Windows accomodates it. Strange.... Make sure you uninstall all remnants of the modem from Add/Remove Hardware Wizard, including the voice components if they exist.

My Honest suggestion would be (if you havent all ready) do a new install of Win2k. All that NT4.0 and W9X code laying around scare the bejesus out of me. ; )

I fixed the BSOD for him, but Win2k still won't let the modem work, oh well, its not my machine.

I had a US robotics modem at one time and I remember wrestling with it for WEEKS. Here is how I fixed it.
1. Uninstall the modem.
2. Uninstall your Sound card
3. Shutdown
4. Take your sound card out of the computer.
4.1 Leave your modem in its slot.
5. Boot your machine.
5.1 Windows should autodetect your modem and install the drivers.
5.2 Try it out. Use phone dialer and see if it is working. (I bet it is)
6. Shut down your computer.
7. Put your sound card back in its slot.
8. Boot your machine.
8.1 Windows should autodetect your sound card and install the drivers.
9. Enjoy your modem!
I know this has worked for me in Windows 98 and 95. I think the modem wants to use some of the same resources that the sound card uses and by installing the modem first it fixes the issues it has with it.

Another thing is that when you first install a ISP and it sets up DIAL UP NETWORKING....most of the time it tries to do it like it does for WIN9x which is completely wrong....I found that i had to go and unhide the Dial Up it configured and make a new one with the same settigs except that it uses the modem....mine was intially configured for a LAN connection and not a Modem dial up.
