Whenever any computer tries to connect to one of my XP machines, it will try to logon as guest even though the account is disabled. And so it fails and comes up with a window to ask you to type the correct username and password in.

I have a group of clients (20) that use a Win 98 machine as a file server. They also run Win98. I want to increase security for the system at a minimal cost. I want to install Win 2000 Professional on the file server and create user accounts for all of the clients.

Here's the problem: The upshot appears to be that unless i make a paid support call to Microsoft, they won't give me the file. After a little more digging, it seems that the hot fix i need is called Q307716_W2K_SP3_X86_EN.

My testbed P2-450 128MB RAM Adaptec 2940 / Seagate 4 gig HD Win2000 Server I finally was able to install the program but this is what I have found. During the setup I have told NT to use the entire partition (4330 MB) for the OS.

This is the 3rd time that I've had this problem in the last couple of years, each time in a different O/S (98, ME & W2k). I've had this happen in IE5 and IE6. After just getting started, any and all downloads just stop, regardless of file size or website.

I just installed a new Dell Laptop for one of the company exec's. It has an onboard NIC and it worked fine. However, when his Port replicator came in, I installed it and it had its own NIC card. This was no problem for Win2K of course and the card was found a recognized.

Hi. Anyone had any problems connecting a XP prof box to a NT40 SP5 server? NT4. 0 is just using workgroup, no domains. DNS and Wins is OK, and I am able to ping the NT4. 0 box by IP and N/W name just fine.

Which is better, Cable or DSL? The DSL service gives me 1. 5mb/128kb, unknown on cable. I was thinking DSL only because of the sharing issue. DSL is offered by Verizon and the cable from AT&T. I would appreciate any opinions.
