Microsoft France has decided to stop producing Microsoft Word 2000 for the time being due to a spell-checker ´racial´ bug. Indeed a French TV channel ( Canal + ) shows to million of watchers that Word 2000 suggests the word ´Anti-Arabs´ when you type ´Anti-stress´. Journalists sues Microsoft to be racist and a scandal happened here in France. So Microsoft stopped the production of Word 2000 and all related products that include Word 2000 and release a patch. A phone call center was also opened to answer customers inquiries and to send customers corrected CDs of Word 2000. Finally Microsoft France announced that Microsoft Word 2000 would be back in stores in April.

A MICROSOFT SPOKESMAN Thursday denounced published reports, based on anonymous sources said to be close to the negotiations, that the software maker and the U.S. government are closer to reaching a settlement in the ongoing federal antitrust case.

"When the reports say, ´sources close to the case,´ then unfortunately the sources don´t have to stand behind what they say," said Jim Cullinan, the Microsoft spokesman, adding that the sources in question must be from the government because Microsoft is following its policy of not commenting about specifics of the talks.

THE HEAD OF Windows development said Thursday that Microsoft was convinced that a copy of Whistler, the next-generation version of consumer Windows, had been posted to the Internet for download, as reported earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Jim Allchin, group vice president of Microsoft´s Platforms Group, disputed reports that an early, internal build of Whistler had been posted on "various college and Internet sites."

Intel is now expected to roll out high end Celeron processors next week based on the Coppermine Pentium III core and including Screaming Sindie, multimedia extensions.

We revealed the existence of these processors earlier on this year.

But, like Celerons based on Pentium II technology, the cache on the processors is expected to be halved, as Intel starts to position the products against AMD Athlon offerings.

Microsoft will soon introduce a "lite" version of its Windows 2000 operating system aimed at running task-specific devices such as Internet appliances and caching servers, according to sources familiar with the company´s plans.

Dubbed Windows 2000 Embedded, the software is a follow-on to Windows NT Embedded 4.0. To date, Microsoft (stock: MSFT) has not publicly acknowledged that such software is in development.

Next week, Intel will unveil two new Celeron processors for inexpensive computers running at 566-MHz and 600-MHz, according to sources. The company will then follow up in late April with two more Celerons running at 633-MHz and 667-MHz. A 700-MHz Celeron, which in February was slated for the second half of the year, may also come out toward the end of the second quarter.
