The vast majority of hardware sales are made in the mainstream segment. If you divided up a pie into sections according to market share the big fat kid who eats way too much would jump on the section labeled ?mainstream?. And of course that skinny little guy would be nibbling at the enthusiast segment. What does this mean? It means that chances are you are one of these people and you need to purchase yourself a reasonably priced video card that will run current titles at reasonable speeds. What many consider the best all around Nvidia card in the ?concerned? mainstream segment is the FX 5600. However, the 5200 Ultra is also a card to be considered once you take a good look at the benchmarks and price tags. Once you decide what card you want, you also need a word on the vendor providing the card. Who makes the card, is it reliable, will it perform, and how does it look? All of these are valid questions. When paying premium for a name brand card you can be assured t! hat all of these things are good. However, when buying from an unknown company you take with you a risk. I am here to see what I can do about assessing the performance risk. I am looking at a Geforce FX Ultra 5200 card from Palit Microsystems, and I am here to test the performance of this card against the quite popular Albatron board of the same make.
