Even Dell doesn't take this into account when sending out replacement motherboards for these little animals. I have seen more than one failure after a motherboard was replaced using the same thermal pad. The best advice I can offer is to remove the thermal pad and replace it with a new one or with thermal compound. Laptops have much less cooling capacity than desktops and it really shows when you have a heat problem.
