game crashes after several minutes and reverts to desktop

When i start the game it begins to load all components such as "adjusting emotional weights" and once it seems complete and the game to load into a main menu it closes automaticlly and keeps doing this every attemp made to make it work.

It will get to the part when it says adjusting emotional weights in the beginning then the game crashes and i goes back to my desktop

this game is a huge memory hog......
it also has several glitches and it tends to freeze often...glad to see I'm not the only one getting the directX error either!

When I first installed it it worked fine but I downloaded some stuff off the sims 2 website for it and it doesnt load anymore. It gets as far as Re-Re-Re-Re-Reticulating Splines then my computer crashes and shuts down. i tryed deleteing all the downloads it worked but not alot it loads but then shuts down 5 minutes into the game.
