I ran 'setup.exe -lgntforce' from the Thief CD and the game installed with warning messages about no hardware graphics acceleration. The intro movies played fine. At the point that the game started to execute each time a Dr. Watson 'access violation' error occurred. This was with the unofficial DirectX 5 patch installed.

Received the follow messages: 1) Run 'setup.exe -lgntforce' from the Thief CD. Then it will install under Windows 2000 without a problem. 2) I did not have to run 'setup.exe -lgntforce' from the Thief CD with the released version of Windows 2000 Professional as indicated by someone else's earlier post. The program 'autorun' after inserting the CD and it installed and played with no problem. I had the Windows 2000 compatibility patch applied before I installed Thief though. 3) Tried it with the -Igntforce and get 'This product cannot be installed on Windows NT due to a Microsoft DirectX(tm) limitation'. I have the MS Compatibility patch. NOTE - I run SMP with dual Celeron. 4) If run on SMP system try setting the thief.exe process to use only one processor. This is done in the Task Manager - right-click on the process and select "Set affinity". The game will normally freeze during gameplay if run on SMP systems without setting affinity first.

Install using Setup.exe -LGntforce switch. Then patch. Setting compatibility mode to Windows2000 if it does not work out of the box.

Working on getting the AVI's to play. Not sure if this is a problem with file associations or not. Otherwise it runs great.

I get to the initial movies of the game just fine, but it crashesa almost moments after the moving in the shadows portion of the tutorial. I have tried all compatibility modes, but I think it is an OpenGL thing.

Working without any videos

Crash workaround - Needed to be set to work under one processor to stop game from crashing
