LEPA G850-MAS 850 W Review

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 09/03/2012 08:53 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

techPowerUp published a review on the LEPA G850-MAS 850 W PSU

LEPA is a fresh company founded in 2011. Their portfolio includes Power Supply Units (PSUs), cases, fans, power adapters, and HDD enclosures. Enermax has built all of their high-end G series PSUs, but they decided to let CWT built their new fresh additions to the series, the G650/750 and G850-MAS. All of them are 80 Plus Gold certified and are based on CWT's new PUQ-Q platform that uses a double forward topology on the primary side, and DC-DC converters for the generation of the minor rails. These PSUs are ErP Lot 6 1010 compliant since they are sold in the EU. They also meet the requirements of the future 2013 directive, which has a stricter limit.

In this review we will evaluate the G850-MAS which has, as it model number implies, 850 W capacity. The unit's most interesting features include a semi-modular cabling design with the modular cables being flat for easier cable management tasks, Japanese-made capacitors for increased lifespan and reliability, a two-ball bearing thermal-controlled fan, and a single +12V rail. The PSU is also, according to LEPA, equipped with all basic protection features including OTP (Over Temperature Protection), which is nice to see in a unit that has the ability to operate in fanless mode at lower loads. The G850-MAS is, among other things, equipped with two EPS and four PCIe connectors that are available at the same time. You could, should your budget allow it, hook two high-end VGAs up to this PSU.
