My DVD rom suddenly couldn't read any cd/cd-rom/dvd-rom. I'd been using it on Win XP for the past six months. It could detect that there is a cd inside though. The error msg i keep getting is 'Windows cannot read from disk.

Hi I am trying to slip-stream SP1 into Office XP, however, when I run setup /a as instructed, I get a message along the lines that administrative install cannot be run from there but needs to be run from an original source.

nba live2001 in windows 2000

I am a die hard nba live fan and i have nba live 2001 and windows 2000 family edition. I have tried all the previous threads and followed what it said but i am only able to get to the intro and then it resets me back to desktop while the demo for nba live works fine.

Has anyone been able to get Worms (an old Team 17 DOS game) to work under 2k? I've tried vdmsound and cli2nop, and messed around with the dos box settings for hours but it just goes to a black screen on startup.

Need less then 16-bit color on XP with aTNT2

Hello, We use a compuetr and only access it via Remote access. 16-bit color is as low as i can go with 800 x 600, however on 2k i could go down to 256, which is what we need as this runs slow now, even over a 100m network.

I'm currently wondering whether or not to buy a Sound Blaster® Audigy™ Surround 5. 1 I could really do with an upgraded sound system, as im using my PC alot for listening to MP3s and watching DVDs at mo (and my PCI 128 doesn't cut the mustard anymore).

Recording from a SB PCI 128 on Win2k

Can anyone tell me whats up with my soundcard? I can record my voice through a microphone, but whenever i try to record sound from a file e. g. WAV or MP3 it just remains silent. I have installed the creative programs update for my sound card, but to no effect.

When I am playing Diablo 2, randomly, it crashes with the error of: UNHANDLED_EXCEPTION: Access Violation(c000005) The things I've tried to correct it are: 1. Everything on Blizzard's tech support, which is: Uninstall Diablo 2, and remove all of it's registry entries and directories.

Is there a way to remove the shadows under the names of the desktop icons - when yuo have cleartype font smoothing activated the shadows are reaaly bad making it very difficult to read the icon's text! there must be a setting somewhere? Tom

I know you can add or remove start up items by selecting or deselecting items in MSConfig. My question is. How can you remove the item completely from the MSConfig window? I have removed applications, bu they keep showing up in the MSConfig window.

A friend of mine just got a new Dell Inspiron 4500 laptop, and a natural keyboard pro. The odd thing is that when the board uses USB it has been known to have problems with the keys not responding for 5-10 seconds at a time.
