Microsoft has confirmed it is working on new Kinect hardware especially for the Windows ecosystem, including new firmware which enables the depth cameras to see as close as 50cm in front of the device. In June, Microsoft launched a free Windows SDK that includes drivers, API, device interfaces, installer documents and resource materials for the Kinect platform.
