Sick to death of IRQ problems.

It seems that I am not alone in suffering the problem of 'IRQ sharing'. There are now many posts regarding the issue. Most people seem to state that as long as ACPI is enabled in your OS then IRQ sharing will be automatically used.

Speed of processor and Hard disk partitions

One of the senior software engineers has said if the processor is below 400Mhz, have one partition on the hard disk, if above 400Mhz have 2 partitions, does this matter at all??? Can anyone shed light on the matter as to why? Surely the speed of the processor has nothing to do with the size of the processor! Any id ...

Acer USB Scanner 640U With Windows 2000

I have a problem with the Acer 640U scanner. Saw that many here ahd the same problem some time ago, so maybe you have solved it (?). Well the thing is that the scanner is found and is working according to the device manager, but when i try to scan it only says scanner not found and check power and cables.

Since I got Asus 5PA mobo I was having frequent freezes on my K6-2 550 w/ Diamond v770 (TNT2), when I was surfing the net I tried to not to breathe to hard and don't make sharp scrooling in browser window, as it was a sure fast way to freeze my system.

Anyone know of a semi-decent graphics card that works well as a secondary graphics adapter under Win2k? I currently have a TNT2A as the primary display adapter and a Creative Banshee PCI as a secondary display adapter.

Motherboard Question

I am going to be upgrading the motherboard and CPU on my computer. Right now I am running Win2000. Do you think it would be OK to just swap the motherboard and cpu and boot up? Or do you think there will be problems with the HAL? Any ideas? TIA.

This site is still called NT compatible, but all the new harware / games / apps are only listed with W2K compatibility. What about those of us still using NT4? We would quite like to know if a game runs under NT, you know.

My apologies for the title, I realized after posting that may be too general. Anywho. . . I have ALWAYS had problems installing Nvidia drivers above version 3. 68, and have had intermittent problems with them as well.

I have 2 machines networked, 1 win98 and 1 win2000. They file and print share, also I have a DSL connection into the hub. My second drive(storage) is shared(win2000). Both drives are shared on the win98 machine but pass-worded.

I need an extra computer in my home. I want it to be fast but financial arguments restrict me some what. I’m thinking of in favour of faster cpu, more ram, better graphics, a good monitor and a network card not to install a floppy, large harddisk or cdrom.
