I recently got one of those Pioneer DVD-303S's, and I've got some weird problems. It reads DVDs just fine, but if you put in a regular cd, it goes into spasms of some type, and takes about 10 secs to get any response from it. If I put a cdr in it, the drive light goes on, and it stops responding completely. The only way to get the disc out is to turn off the machine, as it won't shut down, or the shut down doesn't free it. Has anyone else had this problem?

You might try using a different, preferably brand new SCSI cable. When I first got my 303S I was using the old cable that came with my SCSI controller and I was getting tons of problems reading burned cds, weird artifacts when watching DVDs, etc. I used the cable that was sent with the DVD drive and now it works great. You might try that and if not return it for a new drive. My drive has read every single messed up, burned cd I've thrown at it, and usually at full speed. Ripping is a consistent 12x too. If you can get it working properly this drive really kicks butt!

you might try upgrading the firmware. Just a thought I had a similar problem but with a different drive and that fixed it you can go to this page and grab the drive info prog to see what firmware you are running. The Firmware Page is another useful site and here is the link to Pioneer's official page. Hope that helps you out some, please let me know if it does. Side note be careful about up[censored] firmware on that drive it is one that will not let you go back to a previous version.

Well, I've used two cables, and I have three devices on that chain. An older HD, a Yamaha 6x4x16, and the 303S. I was thinking of using the firmware from Pioneer, but when I look up the drive in the 2940U2W's bios, it lists it as the 303R. The receipt for the drive says it's the 303S. Is it just an error, something inconsequential, or a problem if I want to use the 1.10 firmware?
