SimCity 3000 installation with windows xp

Hewlett Packard installed a new hard drive in my computer and now I can't get SC 3000 to install. It's the only program giving me grief. I keep getting the following message: 16 Bit windows sub-system C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS Windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application"

Anyone have any ideas what is going on?????

Success!!! Go to Control Panel. Click on Display. Click on Settings. Set color quality at 16 bits and screen resolution to 800x600. My Simcity 3000 runs like a dream now. (My resolution was set higher and on 32 bit.)

Did you see my previous post? Are your settings the same? What error are you getting?

In actual fact, ignore what I said before.

You have to copy C:\Windows\Repair\Autoexec.nt to C:\Windows\system32.

I have been having trouble installing this game as well. I copied C:\Windows\Repair\Autoexec.nt to C:\Windows\SYSTEM32 as ross said, but now, the InstallShield pops up, completes 100% setup for installation, but nothing happens after that. Any other help as to why that is happening?

I've got the same problem, SC3k won't start. I use Windows XP SP2, and i've tried to install it on two computers, but the problem is the same.

But, when I open IP.exe, an errormessage that's says: ERROR: Can't open registry. Failed while trying to open HKEY_DYN_DATA

Does anyone have a solution to this?

My game did not start up after a successful installation.
I have a laptop with WinXP Home, plenty RAM and a 32Mb Intel onboard display driver.

So I installed the patch and then set the compability on the SC3 shortcut-icon to Win 2000 and after a couple of tries I finally got the game to start.

Patch here: http://simcity3000unlimited.ea.com/us/simexchange/downloads/sc3k_bat/index.phtml

The first time I run the game it crashed, but now it just generates a couple of error-messages on startup, and then the game runs smooth :-):
(And I have just built my first SC3-city in years..)

I have searched for advice all day so hopefully I am in the right place to get it. I have been trying to install Sim City 3000 on my computer which runs Windows XP.

I have had different errors arise which hopefully I will document:

I put the disc in, the autorun works, I click install SC3000 and the installer loads up, 99... 100% - Excellent! Up loads an installer called Kyro, click next and... bang! the error message says the installer file C:\cvr3w2k\drivers\kyro.inf could not be found? I have no other options from there as it shuts itself down!

Can anyone suggest a way around this? Or alternatively are there any after market installers I can download to take over?

I dont know where to go next so any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Jon

What kind of video card are you using? Given the subdirectory it is looking for Kyro drivers for a w2k system not XP

Interesting question which believe me I would love to answer! My main problem is that I know little of the jargon needed to get around this problem and worst of all, the set up doesn't even open for me to get a chance!

It did run on my comp when I was using W98 andafter changing to XP now it won't even load. The file I previously mentioned I can locate on my comp and open in 'read me' text fashion and it says last accessed in 2001 but the setup doesn't recognise it's existence.

The best case scenario in my eyes would be for me to remove any files related to the games previous existence, but they aren't available either.

As I previously said I dont know where to go next! Really just shooting at ducks!

Cheers

Well to find out the video card on your machine right click My Computer, choose Properties from the drop down menu, then click on the Hardware tab, then click on the Device Manager button, then when all of your devices are displayed, click on the "+" next to Display Adaptors. That should reveal your cards name.

However, I think that you will have to install the game and run it in compatibility mode using Windows 98

I looked where you suggested and nothing stood out. I do know that it is a 3D video card and I have no doubt that it should run the game.

How do I perform the installation in Windows 98 mode as you suggested?

Put your CD in - hold down the left Shift button to keep the CD from starting up automatically. Bring up windows explorer. Click to the CD drive and find setup.exe. Right click on setup.exe, and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Put a check mark in the box next to Run this Program in Compatibility mode. In the drop down box, choose Windows 98. Hit OK, let it install. If it installs completely, don't run the game immediately. To run the game, if it puts an icon on your desktop, do the same procedure as above to put it in compatibility mode for windows 98. Then try the game.

Sadly I got the same message, so it appears to be something to do with the setup software, which in all honestly I have never seen before!

The message reads:

No device information could be read from the following INF File. This file will be ignored: C:\Cvr3w2k\drivers\kyro.inf

Now, the file exists and it is a text document, however I have no idea what the code says and where it could be corrupted!

Do you think I could delete this software and not experience any problems? My thinkig is that surely that would allow the standard setup program to take over?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers

Right, ok I got rid of Kyro, it appears that it came onto my comp along with a patch for another game.

This is the stage that I am now at. As above I have set the game up to install and run in Windows 98 mode but thats as far as it goes. It doesn't install on my desktop nor does it run.

Can anyone help from here?

Cheers
